I just wanted to ride off into the sunset

Hey Everybody…

All this craziness got started when I decided to pen exactly what I did to reach the top of the comp plan in just 14 months. The compensation plan I am referring to is that of my first attempt at professional network marketing. Sure, 14 months was fast and I was grateful, but I could only wonder what others with the same drive, determination, and commitment could do armed with the knowledge I had amassed in that 14 months. So I wrote it down.

But I digress. Before I tell you what happened, you need to understand my dilemma. Yeah, I love the time and financial freedom my sons and I enjoy as a result of hitting it big in network marketing. But the fact is, I am really not a big fan of the limelight. I once heard the question posed, “Would you rather be rich and famous, or just rich?” I didn’t even have to consider the former. I was all about just being rich. You see, for years I had realized two significant truths:

  1. Time is our most precious asset. They ain’t making any more of it. The best we can do is take ownership of our time and recapture the finite amount we have.
  2. There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch. (T.A.N.S.T.A.A.F.L.) The powers that be weren’t about to just give me back the time I had let go (a little here and a little there) to commitments like work, work, and more work. I would have to fight for it.

So taking those two tenets of life into consideration, I was willing to do what it took to regain control of my time. I was willing to take massive action with one stipulation. The deal I made with myself was—once I accomplished time freedom, I also wanted to ride off into the sunset. In other words, in the beginning I set out to use direct selling as a means to an end. Then, lo’ and behold my system created the circumstances for me to do just that!

Then somewhere along the way it happened. Like a lot of things in life, MLM presented me with an unanticipated silver lining . . . the relationships. I gotta tell you (in full disclosure), I was not a people-person when I entered the multilevel space. I know that sounds nuts, but it is the undeniable truth. It pains me to disclose this, but as a wise man once told me, “The truth will set you free.” If you have been in network marketing any length of time, I don’t have to tell you that mlmers are some of the most honest, gracious, and selfless individuals you can ever meet. Therein lies the rub. MLM turned me into a people-person.

The urge to fade away, passive residual income in tow, persisted, but the relationships were tugging at my heartstrings. My solution? I would write The Little Book of Network Marketing Series. I thought if I wrote down exactly what I did, I could leave a legacy of paying it forward through my writings. I would give back by sharing the secrets and techniques that I had learned and used to achieve Top 12 Money Earner status in a little over 3 years. The first book, The Little Book of Network Marketing, A Pocket

was a big hit and rocketed up the rankings to reside among the best of the best in the ‘Multilevel’ category on Amazon. And then it started…

People began to heap glowing praise on the book in their reviews, via Facebook and other social media comments, and in personal letters to me. They were sharing the success they enjoyed using the book with others through recommendations and good ole’ fashioned word-of-mouth referrals. I began to want to give back more.
My answer? In 2012, I released The Little Book of Network Marketing, 91 Days To Greatness and the accompanying workbook. Another immediate success, this installment of the series describes in detail how to execute a 13-week push of massive and immediate multilevel downline-building action. With two best-sellers in category on Amazon, those who were benefitting from my methods only became hungry for more.

I said all that to say this: In spite of my reluctance to speak from podiums or stages, and in total contradiction to my original plans, I find myself compelled to dedicate myself to do even more. And here’s how I plan to do it…

I will be The MLM Personal Trainer.

I have come to learn there are 3 ways that students consume educational materials:
1. They are sent the books and they “go do it.”

This is the most affordable of the three and, therefore, the most common. Once the actual content is received, the student must provide self-motivation and the willingness to take action.

2. The expert does the work for the student.

I know. This one I find most appealing too. The trouble is, this is the most expensive method. It is very hard to afford the amount of cold, hard cash it would take to make it worth the time of any expert worth his or her salt. Refer to the first of the two Significant Truths I mentioned in this post.

3. The student gets the information and does it together with the expert.

Voila! This dog will hunt. I am truly humbled by the response to my books and the outpouring of support from my students and fans. This is how, together, we can get literally thousands of network marketers the benefits of The Little Book of Network Marketing Series training content and the assistance, mentoring, and coaching of The MLM Personal Trainer.

So look for a far more personal touch on this blog in the days, weeks, and years to come. I am grateful for my MLM lifestyle and as I have written in my books, I believe to keep it, I must pay it forward. I intend to pass along the knowledge I have learned along my journey. P.S. – Like I mentioned up at the top of this “world’s longest” blog post, I plan to make this far different from stereotypical mlm guru-speak. I hope it is okay if I am just “me” in these blog posts and videos? Folks who know me expect a “what you see, is what you get” approach from me and I get a lot of positive feedback in that regard. I hope all my new students and fans will appreciate a fresh, “real,” approach to mentoring too. But as I mentioned, I’d love to hear what you think.

Early on our network marketing journey we must share information, sift and sort, until we find others who want to go where we do. Over time, that leadership will duplicate.

Challenge for today:

Call your teammates who want to go with you. Focus your energy today on helping one who will, go where he or she wants to go. If you are just getting started lead yourself.
